travel in thailand:Beaches of Eastern Thailand

Tour in thailand...Must go to then know

Thailand is geographically shaped like an axe and its lower half is literally surrounded by hundreds of beautiful beaches and islands.

Although the southern part of the country is no doubt more famous for its exceptional beauty, the eastern side does have its fair share of attractions as well.

Some of the already famous names familiar to international tourists include Pattaya, Ko Samet, Ko Chang, and Rayong.

Here, we’re going to explore deeper around the regions’ attractions, beaches, islands, islets, hotels accommodations, diving, snorkeling, activities and more.

Pattaya

Just 145 kilometers drive southeast of Bangkok, you will arrive in Pattaya city, a bustling metropolis with beaches running parallel to the main road that seem to go on and on.

The whole town is one big exciting place where you can find multi national restaurants and people, shopping malls, world class hospitals, beach activities, Muay Thai camps, transvestite shows, 24 hour super-markets selling food from all parts of the world, night life, golf courses, hotels of every class, etc. As a matter of fact, there is very little one could not find in this lively town.

The beaches here include South Pattaya, Middle Pattaya, North Pattaya, and Jomtien, the latter being the most famous of all.

The sands and water here are not comparable to those of the south but still, they offer vacationers a place to relax.

There is something for everyone, nice hotels with large pools for those who want to chill-out and take it easy or plenty of water sports for the more active individuals like banana boating, jet skiing, para-gliding, wind surfing, etc.

You can even hire a speed boat for the day and go around the many islands surrounding the area.

Diving and snorkeling or dive courses by PADI is readily available here. Some islands are nearer while others are a little further away but all are easily accessible by speed boat.

There’s Ko Lan, Ko Phai, Ko Luam, Ko Klung Baden, Ko Man Wichai, Ko Rin with some surprisingly nice coral reefs considering the short distance of travel involved.

Ko Samet(Samet island)

Only a short boat ride from Ban Phae pier in Rayong, Ko Samet is an island that is loved by many due to its short distance from Bangkok, beautiful beaches and clear water.

Only 2 hours by car from Bangkok and 15 to 30 minutes by boat, each of the beaches on the island offers many different atmospheres.

Hotels on the island range from budget to luxury and some beaches are public while others are private.

Saikaew beach is considered the most beautiful and definitely the most popular one. This public beach offers a stretch of powdery white sandy beach where European vacationers enjoy sun bathing.

The hotels here are beachfront and you can expect to find pizzerias, reggae pubs, and Thai massage. At night, the atmosphere gets pretty romantic as the whole beach is lined with candle-lit tables….just makes you want to relax and enjoy a cold glass of beer under the night sky with that particular someone.

Other popular public beaches are Haad Vongduern, Ao Tubtim, Ao Thian, Ao Wai, each dotted with so many hotels that come in all kinds of price ranges.

The island does have many high end resorts that often feature a spa and private beach. Those are usually situated in the less crowded areas like Ao Noina and Ao Phrao.

Many of these resorts often provide private charter services for their guests. For others, public boat transfers can be found at Ban Phe pier once every hour from morning to evening year round.

Ko Chang(Chang island)

Not only is Ko Chang the second largest island in the kingdom, it is surrounded by 52 smaller islands which make up The Mu Ko Chang Marine National Park.

Situated in the country’s eastern most province, Trat, it takes about 5 hours to reach by car from Bangkok.

On Ko Chang itself, there are plenty of hotels to choose from and getting around the island is convenient since most visitors do take their vehicles over to the island courtesy of the ferry services from Laem Ngop pier on the main land.

Most of the hotels and resorts are located on the west side of the island as this part is considered the most beautiful. The beaches on this side include White Sand Beach, Khlong Prao Beach, and Kai Bae Beach.

For the most part, the island is hilly and some hotels use that as an advantage and angle their pools and hotel rooms perched high up on cliffs to catch the best views of the ocean.

Although diving and snorkeling in this part is not as popular as in the south, there are still lots of interesting spots to be seen like in Ko Gra, Ko Wai, Ko Rang, Ko Mai Si Lek, Ko Mai Si Yai, etc.

Ko Mai Sis
Ko Mai Si Lek and Mai Si Yai are an unspoilt group of islands close to Ko Kood and are made up mostly of mountains and forests with some coconut groves around the fishing villages. Ko Mai Si Yai has a splendid sandy beach along its bay on the east side and is abundant with coral reefs.

Ko Mai Daeng
A small island east of Ko Wai, Ko Mai Dang is peaceful and tranquil with white sandy beaches and unspoiled corals making it a great place to fish and camp.

Ko Kood
The fourth largest island in Thailand, Ko Kood, is situated 80 km southeast of Trad, and is the farthest island from the mainland. It is also the country’s easternmost island sharing the border with Cambodia.

Ko Kood is a paradise with scenic beauty, crystal clear water, pristine beaches, breathtaking waterfalls and a very pure, natural environment. The resorts on the island do come with basic amenities though they still have to produce their own electricity, the main source from solar power. The best beaches are on the west side of the island and also a great place to catch the most romantic sunset. Compared to its big sister island, Ko Chang, Ko Kood is still somewhat little known to foreigners. It might be an idea to take advantage of that and be amongst the first groups of foreigners to explore the island.
