Tips on Getting Your Baby to Sleep Through the Night

Author: Suzanne Hansen

If you’re a new parent, you may be dragging yourself through the day due to a consistent lack of sleep. Many parents deal with sleep deprivation on a regular basis because their newborn just won’t sleep through the night.

While you’re so excited with having brought your baby into your life, you’re also exhausted because of it. Most likely, you had no idea how much sleep you would lose due to having a baby and you may be totally unprepared to deal with it.

Take heart. You can restore your zest for life and begin sleeping again. First, you have to make certain your baby starts sleeping through the night. This can be accomplished if you know some tips to aid you in the process.

Listed below are some tips on getting your baby to sleep through the night:

· Observe the current time your baby is sleeping. Is it for long or short periods. Does he or she sleep a lot throughout the day.

· Also, take note of the time you’re feeding your baby. This can have a huge impact on your baby sleeping through the night.

· Make certain your baby sleeps alone. It can be easy to get in the habit of your newborn sleeping with you, but it’s not a good idea. Give your baby a big hug, and then put him or her in their own sleeping space.

· After cuddling your baby, put him or her in a dark room and don’t stimulate your infant in any way.

· Give your baby a warm bath before bedtime. This will really help relax your baby and allow him or her to receive a better night’s sleep as a result.

· Rock your baby in a rocking chair prior to putting him or her to bed for the night. This is an easy way to get him or her to sleep quickly.

· Play a calming baby CD for your baby, once you put him or her down. This will help them stay calm and make certain your baby gets to sleep quickly.

· Stroke and massage your baby before trying to get him or her to sleep. This can increase the likelihood of sleeping through the night.

When you implement the above tips on a regular basis, you’re certain to see better results in the quantity and quality of time in which your baby sleeps. When your baby gets a good night’s sleep, you are more likely to get a good night’s sleep as well, and nothing can compare to the importance of that.
